The brand creates elegant, minimal, and efficient products out of natural leather that blends in with the user's lifestyle while standing out as beautiful handcrafted designs. They give us a window into their design world.
Hi! Lo Esencial, tell us a little bit about the company and the founders.
Lo Esencial is a Leathergoods brand founded by Adolfo Navarro in 2015. Adolfo is a product designer who always wanted to expand each object's utility and usefulness in a smart way. Lo Esencial turns in the perfect project to explore many possibilities in one of the best long-lasting materials (leather). Today we're a small but powerful team of 7 people; product designers, master craftsmanship, account managers, etc.
What is the meaning behind the companies name?
That's a good one! Lo Esencial is about the essential things you need in your life, objects without which you could not start your day, items that are more than objects that complement the soul telling its own story when using them. Maybe it's a little romantic, but that's what we do, and love does. The name is a reflection of this.
What lead you to start Lo Esencial, and what drew you to leathergoods.
We started Lo Esencial because the objects that we most enjoyed designing were the ones that were used every day and no the sculptural ones that you only place in a living room. After long research,we realized that the perfect material to achieve this purpose was leather. From there, we started with the development of one single piece leather objects. The goal was to create a seamless piece and optimize the material's use while improving each object's experience. Doing this, we realized that we were giving a new twist to traditional leather goods with a more minimal approach.
What does your creative process look like?
Everything in Lo Esencial is about simplification and optimization. With each object, we start by asking ourselves: what’s the need? How can I simplify this? How can I make it work better? How can I make it more enjoyable? How can I simplify it even more?
From there, the design and concept of each piece arise. In short: all about do more with less.
What makes a Lo Esencial product?
Perfect materials, excellent and minimal design, and a little smart construction always aim to achieve objects that you can use in a better way every day.
What should people know about leather?
Leather is a perfect material, noble, very durable, which is probably one of the best materials in which many objects can be made off. Of course, if it's obtained from the right sources and adequately worked. People believe that the use of leather not substainable, but not necessarily. A leather object can last many years longer in use than a synthetic one
What are some of the setbacks or challenges you have faced?
We are making room through good design and quality in an industry full of generic leather objects.
What product can't you leave home without?
Our Classic Wallet II, iPhone and pocket knife.
What music sets the creative tone at the office?
We love to design and work with a mix of different music, from The Blaze, Kaytranada, Olafur Arnalds to and Massive Attack to Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Goodie Mob. Jazz classics like Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk always put a good mood too.
What is the vision for your brand in the next years to come?
We just expect that many other people can know and use our goods. We would like that’s Lo Esencial to grow into a lifestyle, not only a brand.

We like a lot Ben & Frank, a local glasses brand, for the changes they’re making in that industry and customers.
