Teekanne Teapot + Sugar and Creamer
Story
“A teapot with an insulated handle is the classic piece in silversmithing. Sooner or later every silversmith will strive to create one’s own interpretation of this object. When an old wood turner presented me a piece of vintage ebony, I felt it was my turn. The silver teapot is not just an object crafted for a mere purpose. It is an essential part of the old, distinct and rich culture of tea drinking, which is often referred to as the essence of being British. The silversmith’s challenge is to join all practical and the cultural aspects into a consistent object that is more than it’s assembled elements. That is why I integrated the handle completely into the body. It’s rounded and slightly stocky shape emphasizes the comfortable atmosphere of having a cup of tea together. The lid is fitted almost seamless. This, the integrated handle and the form of the body, highlight the homogenous sculptural form of the vessel. Two discreetly asymmetrical forms, the creamer and the sugar pot, supplement the symmetry of the teapot. Both have fixed lids that will open on a hidden pivot to maintain the idea of a homogenous appearance”. Sophie Hebach-Kloess
